What is the “Good Faith Estimate”? Under the new Public Health Service Act Section 2799B-6, health care providers and facilities are required to inform individuals who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical services known as a Good Faith Estimate. You have the right to receive the GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. You are entitled to a GFE within 1 business day before your medical service is provided. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you may dispute the bill.
